Materials That Work Great
Perfect for both engraving and cutting (depending on thickness and settings):
Wood: Birch, Maple, Cherry, MDF, Plywood, Bamboo, and other natural woods
Acrylic / Plexiglas (PMMA): Clear, colored, and two-tone sheets for signage and décor
Leather & Suede: Natural or treated leather for custom goods and branding
Fabric & Textiles: Cotton, denim, canvas, felt, hemp, polyester blends
Paper & Cardstock: Perfect for custom invitations, packaging, and artwork
Delrin (Acetal / POM): Ideal for durable engraved parts
ABS & PETG Plastics: Engraves and cuts well with proper ventilation
Glass & Stone: Great for surface etching (not for cutting)
Rubber (laser-safe types): For stamps and custom marking projects
These materials are unsafe and will not be engraved. CO₂ laser engraving or cutting and can release toxic fumes or damage your machine:
PVC / Vinyl (Polyvinyl Chloride) – Releases chlorine gas
Polycarbonate (Lexan) – Produces toxic fumes and burns poorly
Teflon (PTFE) – Not laser-safe
Fiberglass / Carbon Fiber (with resin) – Dangerous fumes and fiber damage risk
Raw or Reflective Metals (Aluminum, Copper, Brass, Steel) – CO₂ lasers cannot cut bare metals; use a marking spray or anodized coating for engraving only

Materials We Cut Best
Our Boss Laser LS Series machines are built for clean, precise results across a wide range of laser-safe materials. Here’s what we work with most often:
Wood: Perfect for signage, displays, and décor — including MDF, plywood, birch, cherry, maple, and bamboo.
Acrylic (PMMA): Cuts beautifully in clear or colored sheets up to ⅜″ thick, ideal for polished edges and vibrant designs.
Leather: Great for custom patches, tags, and products — natural or treated (just avoid PVC-backed leather).
Paper, Cardboard & Chipboard: Excellent for packaging, model work, and creative projects.
Fabric & Felt: Perfect for apparel, soft goods, and custom decorations.
Rubber (Laser-Safe): Ideal for making gaskets, stamps, and precision cut parts.
Delrin (Acetal): A strong, durable plastic often used for mechanical parts and signage.
*Materials We Don’t Cut
Safety comes first! Some materials aren’t suitable for CO₂ laser cutting because they can release harmful fumes or damage the equipment. Please avoid sending the following:
PVC / Vinyl: Produces toxic chlorine gas when cut.
Polycarbonate / Lexan: Burns easily and leaves discolored, rough edges.
Fiberglass, Carbon Fiber, and Composites: Give off hazardous fumes and can damage the laser.
Raw or Reflective Metals: CO₂ lasers can’t cut uncoated or polished metal surfaces — marking only is possible with special coatings.
